Oshawa Remembers

1933 Monument for RCL Branch 43

For nearly a century, **Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 has served the community of Oshawa by supporting veterans, preserving remembrance, and strengthening community connections.

 The Oshawa Remembers – 100 Years of Service Project honours the legacy of those who built and sustained Branch 43 while preserving the stories of veterans connected to our community.

Historical Timeline


Branch 43 – 1927 to 2027

1927

Branch 43 is established by local First World War veterans seeking fellowship, advocacy, and remembrance.

1930s

Early Legion activities include community remembrance services and veteran support initiatives.

1939–1945

Many members serve during the Second World War. Following the war, Legion membership grows significantly.

Early 1950s

Branch 43 establishes its permanent Legion hall on Simcoe Street South, creating a central gathering place for veterans and community events.

1960s–1980s

The branch expands community engagement through youth remembrance programs, sports leagues, and charitable activities.

1990s–2000s

Branch 43 strengthens partnerships within Oshawa and continues to support veteran welfare and remembrance initiatives.

2010s–2020s

The branch modernizes outreach through community programs, digital engagement, and expanded remembrance initiatives.

2027

Branch 43 celebrates 100 years of service to veterans and the Oshawa community.
